Our New Members

Wyoming Alpha has been getting to know some pretty amazing new members! We have 17 fabulous leaders who have already been proving to be great members.

On Bid Day, we held a cookie shine with our new members and taught them several Pi Phi songs and cheers. For the next few weeks after Bid Day until Big Sis Reveal, new members got gifts every week from a woman in the chapter who also spent time with that new member that week. The gifts included picture frames, a heartfelt letter, and memory boxes.

This year for Big Sis Reveal, all of the Big Sisters bought a pair of socks or gloves. When the Little Sisters walked in, all of us were standing behind a big banner with our chapter’s family tree on it, dancing with just the other half to the Little Sister’s pair showing. After anticipation built, we dropped the banner to reveal ourselves. Some things that we do for reveal every year, is chant our family’s name. When the new members walked in we were screaming our family names (such as "bunnies!!") and let the anticipation build before we were revealed. Many of us went to dinner afterwords.

We look forward to all the fantastic contributions our new members will continue to make to Wyoming Alpha!

New Beginnings

The ladies of Wyoming Alpha Pi Beta Phi are very excited to be back! We have had a fantastic spirit week.

This is Jill Conrad. She is the amazing LDC that headquarters sent to live with us this semester. She has already been incredibly helpful!

We kicked off spirit week with a Luau themed dance party in the basement after some particularly spirited cheering on frat mall. Justi and Shandra are clearly having a great time!

Here is a picture of some of our senior Pi Phi's in our adorable spirit week shirts. After a great week of workshops and teamwork, we took pictures around campus! These pictures will be found on the Wyoming Alpha Pi Beta Phi facebook page.

Friday night, a number of us volunteered to help Friday Night Fever with Casino Night. In this picture, Dakota and Paige are helping Cody practice dealing blackjack.

We have all had a great time this week and are very excited about the year to come!

Initiation AND Founder's Day

Not only was last week our initiation week for the wonderful Nicole Filicetti, but we also had our Founder's Day brunch. Both events were a huge success. Nicole Filicetti is a sophomore Economics majors from Green River, Wyoming. In the picture is Nicole and her mother, Diane, a Montana Alpha. Our chapter is glad to welcome this fantastic new initiate.

We had a large attendance by alumnae at our wonderful brunch. In this picture from left to right is Wyoming Alpha alumna and AAC member Brittany Wilson, actives Megan Geise and Justi Lohmeyer, Wyoming Alpha alumna and AAC member Bailey Anthony, and our Region 7 Membership Specialist Britton Trabert.
This brunch was also attended by Margaret Tobin, our oldest alumna. She is a great help to our Chapter, and a great joy to talk to. She is pictured with actives Kaitlin Mallow, April Patton, and Chantel McKee in the picture to the right.

Greek Week!

Last week was Greek Week on campus! It was very fun and very exciting. We have not gotten results for who has won. However, we placed second in most of the events (not bad!) including Wiffle Ball and Knowledge Bowl. We also got first place in Large Group Talent and a Chariot Race! We all had a really good time.

Pi Phi Pie Fest!!

Last Friday we held the annual Pi Phi Pie Fest. As usual, we had representatives for each fraternity and sorority. However, this year we also had three members of the UW Men's Basketball team, which was very exciting. We auctioned off pies in a silent auction during the event. With the exception of a few donated pies from restaurants, we had some awesome pies that were homemade by our members. We also had the addition of Pie a Pi Phi. Volunteers from the chapter had 15-20 minute shifts, three at a time, to sit in a chair and be pied for a flat rate of $10. I personally was pied three times, and other members were pied even more! The event was very successful and we raised approximately $1600. Pictures will be up shortly.

Anti-Valentines

Last Thursday, our wonderful event planner, Kirby Lawrence, teamed up with the event planner from Tri-Delta and held an event for all of the sorority women on campus. The event involved playing board games, decorating delicious cookies, and making Valentine's Day cards that are to be donated to the Ivinson home for aged women. The event was quite successful, with women from every chapter coming out, and a few fraternity men  that heard about it and wanted in on the fun! It's always great to spend time with our fellow Greeks!

Congrats to Pi Phis!

Today Lilly Pulitzer announced the latest sororities that are getting a special Lily print, and Pi Beta Phi was among them! This may not be Wyoming Alpha specific, but it is exciting nonetheless!

MLK Day of Service

Today, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there was a day of community service at the Laramie Plains Civic Center. There were 7 members who came out and did their part while proudly wearing the letters of Pi Beta Phi. The women participated in several different philanthropic activities, such as volunteering for the soup kitchen, helping out with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and helping to fix up the Civic Center itself. There was also a march later in the day. It is always wonderful to have our members participate in things aiding the community, and to give the community a positive image of our chapter whilst dong so!

Aid From the Community

This past year, there has been a huge pile of rocks in our parking lot waiting to be dealt with. Today was the day to finally shovel all of them out. What was so amazing about today, was how much help we received. Pi Phi got a lot of help from family members of one of our actives (one of whom supplied a Bobcat), the gentlemen of Alpha Tau Omega (who supplied extra shovels and a dump truck), Brenden Cline from Pi Kappa Phi, Jim Meyer from SAE, and the president of KKG, Rachel Caarlsgard. Not only did many of our own members pitch in, but these awesome community members all showed up around 9 am on a Saturday, just to lend a hand! We all enjoyed hot chocolate and snacks after the work was finished.

Welcome back, and to this blog!

Hello, all! I've started this blog as a way for Pi Phi actives, alumnae, and parents to have just one more way to check on what is going on in our chapter.

Today is the first day of classes for the Spring 2012 semester. Not only that, but it is Chapter Loyalty Day! The girls are all wearing letters or are dressed to the pin in celebration. There is much to look forward to this semester. We have a fabulous new executive team, that has already begun collaborating, forming new goals, and working together on new projects. Also, Spring recruitment begins in just a few weeks!

As exciting things happen in our chapter, I will update this blog. Be sure to check it!
